From a cooking standpoint, I love summer! I love the foods that are seasonal, the grilling, the salads, the stone fruits, the berries, the fresh herbs… I mean… *sigh*

I’m always looking for ways to use the freshness that abounds at my local farmers’ market. I got this weird idea one day to make BBQ sauce out of blueberries. It turns out that it wasn’t such a weird idea! It’s yummy!

This recipe is ridiculously easy. And with only 4 ingredients, it’s pretty simple. Just dump the ingredients in a saucepan, mash, and blend. The end.

What to do with it

There are many uses for a Q sauce. Here are a few:

  • Slather some on some grilled chicken (obv.)
  • Dip some AIP Chicken Tenders in it
  • Drizzle some over your Bison Burgers
  • Ribs? (I haven’t tried it yet, but seems like it could be a thing.)

One word of caution…

I have talked so much about the Cuisinart mini food processorBlueberry BBQ Sauce (AIP/Paleo) - Wendi's AIP Kitchen (4) that you may be tempted to just blitz this mixture in that instead of a blenderBlueberry BBQ Sauce (AIP/Paleo) - Wendi's AIP Kitchen (5). Do not do this. Yes, I love my little mini food processor with all my heart, but if you use it for this recipe, you will find out that barbecue sauce can splash out of the top of it, splatter your shoes, and get on your white pants that you were inexplicably wearing to make barbecue sauce, and you might cry. Ahem.

Use the blender.

I hope you are managing the crazy changes facing us right now, and maintaining equilibrium. Most of all – as always – I wish you great love and deep healing!

Thanks – really good and easy recipe! I don’t make a lot of AIP sauces because they’re usually so much work, and I was never really a fan BBQ sauce, but that’s because they were all tomato-based and I never liked tomato. So this was a nice change and I enjoyed it a lot.

Hi, Levi! 👋 Waaaaay in the back of my fridge sits a small jar of the stuff – from several months ago. No mold or anything. I recommend you cleaning out your fridge way more frequently than I do, and not keep this BBQ sauce that long. 😂 I am not an expert on how long things should be able to keep, scientifically speaking, but I believe this BBQ sauce can hang around a while…

I've always believed that what we eat reeeeaaalllly matters. I just didn't know how much until I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Then I learned about Autoimmune Paleo (AIP). Turns out there IS something we can do to feel better!
