WHEN TO APPLY

We recommend applying 3 months prior to your plans to leave Canada.

Important notes:

  • Do not leave Canada until you obtain your new visa.
  • Be cautious when booking flights before obtaining your visa.
  • While your Temporary Resident Visa can expire while you are in Canada, we highly encourage you to keep it valid in case you need to unexpectedly leave Canada.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

All applicants require:

  • Recent education transcript (official)
    • myTrent > Academics > Transcript Request.
  • A Letter of Enrollment
    • Graduate > myTrent > Academics > Verification of Enrollment.
    • Undergraduate/Certificate > myTrent > Register> Verification > Verification of Enrollment
  • Copyof Canadian Study Permit
  • Copy of valid passport
  • Proof of financial support:you must prove that you can support yourself and the family members who will be with you while you are in Canada.*Important note:Do note that the proof of funds required for a study permit has changed as of January 1, 2024.Visit the IRCC website for more information.
  • Digital Photo
  • Application for Temporary Resident Visa[IMM5257] -The application form listed in your document checklist will be calledApplication for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257). This is the form you need to fill out, even when you apply from inside Canada.
  • Applicants may require:
