International Health Insurance | Aetna International (2024)

An International health insurance plan for expats and those moving abroad is much broader cover than standard holiday or business travel insurance. It is designed to provide access to local health care services, emergency cover, maternity care, treatment of ongoing conditions and repatriation if needed. Travel insurance provides some of this cover to a lesser degree, but for a single trip or shorter periods of time. Travel insurance also protects against non-medical risks such as lost luggage and trip cancellation.

An international health insurance plan offer a range of covers suitable for anyone working and living outside of their home country for a year or more. Amongst others, they include:

  • Medical and emergency evacuations
  • Medical care expenses
  • Maternity coverage
  • Access to doctors and prescription drugs

It is possible to cover some pre-existing conditions on some policies. To find a plan that covers your pre-existing conditions, please speak to one of our advisors.

Cover can be provided in just a few minutes. You can either get a quote online or call an advisor to discuss your individual requirements. You'll just need some details about where and when you're moving abroad and about any pre-existing medical conditions.

Our international health insurance plans are designed to cover you while travelling, regardless of where you are in the world. This gives you the flexibility to seek treatment in multiple locations, protecting you and your family against accidents and unexpected illness as you travel abroad.

Claims can be made from any private medical facility. This also includes private facilities not within the Aetna network.

We have a range of plans to choose from, some of which include international dental insurance as standard. Dental cover can also be easily added to other plans. Speak to one of our advisors to learn more about what’s included in each policy.

We are unable to provide cover in sanctioned countries which currently include Crimea (Annexed Region of Ukraine), Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan (North) and Syria. For all other locations please speak with one of our advisors.

Our international health and wellness insurance plans can cover those maintaining more than one country of residence. This allows you to continue ongoing treatments abroad or make a claim from more than one location.

We specialize in international health and wellness insurance plans for businesses. If you are an employer or a business with a global workforce, please visit our dedicated employers page.
