Do I need to call Verizon before traveling internationally? ›

We recommend that you add an international travel plan through "Manage International Services" in My Verizon or contact a Verizon Wireless representative by calling 800-922-0204 to ensure your device is ready for international travel.

You must turn on cellular data or data roaming when you go to the TravelPass country to use Travel Pass. Please remember that once your cellular data or data roaming is turned on, a TravelPass session can be started by background data, including: App content refreshing (e.g., Weather apps, Fitness Tracker, etc.)

You can add up to 140 countries for $10/line per month per country. Get discounted rates after the allowances to the selected country. Plus, make discounted calls from $0.05/per minute to 220+ countries.

How much does international messaging cost while you're in the US? If you have our Unlimited data plans or a shared data plan* you have unlimited messaging for no additional charge, including messages to and from other countries while you're in the US.

Use Wi-Fi communication apps

If you want to skip additional charges altogether, you can leave your phone on airplane mode for the entire trip. The good news is that today so many communication apps operate over Wi-Fi that you may not even miss having cellular data.

Standard text messaging charge of $0.20/message applies to messages sent and received in the Nationwide Rate and Coverage Area, except for International Text Messages, which cost $0.25/message sent and $0.20/message received, and which do not use messaging bundle allowances, unless you are on a MORE Everything plan ...

TravelPass activates when you make or receive a call, connect to a data service or send a text. Another daily session will begin after the first 24-hour period expires. You can keep TravelPass on your account at no additional charge so it will be ready the next time your travels take you abroad.

How do I not use Verizon TravelPass? ›

TravelPass^SM Countries

For just $5 a day per line in Mexico and Canada and $10 a day per line in more than 210 countries and destinations you can take your domestic talk, text and data allowances with you. You're only charged on the days you use your device abroad.

To avoid any data charges, we suggest to turn off cellular data and have roaming off. You can also have the “Enable LTE data” option off. If someone calls you and leaves you a voicemail message no additional charge applies, but if you can a check the voicemail from your device it will while roaming.

Each TravelPass day gives you 24 hours of unlimited talk and text, 2 GB of high speed international data then unlimited data at 3G speeds thereafter. Once all your included TravelPass days are used, the normal TravelPass daily fee will be applied. Note: TravelPass is available in 210+ countries and destinations.

Our international plans let you use your phone in more than 210 countries and destinations outside the US: TravelPass: You can use your domestic plan's talk, text and data allowances just like you do at home.

In the My Verizon app - Choose Account from the top left menu, then choose My Plan and International (for shared data plans), or choose a line and click Manage Plan (for unlimited plans). Follow the prompts. By sending a text to 4004: Global Calling Plus – text the word "Plus"

Calling back to the US is free. Calls to any other country will be charged as per your international long distance calling plan. If you don't have one, you're charged international long distance pay-as-you-go rates.
