Only passenger vehicles in and up to a full-size category (F***) with a maximum of 7 seats can travel across country borders within Europe. Driving from France to the UK

Taking a car rental from France to the UK is straightforward. No matter where in France you are coming from, you'll need to go through the Euro Tunnel with a car transport. The departure point is near Calais, France, and it is best to book your spot and pay ahead of time to avoid delay. The trip from France to the UK takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

Driving from France to Italy

The route between the two countries will take you through mountains and beautiful landscapes. You can drive your car rental from France to Italy via Lyon and Turin, driving through a wildlife park and national park. If skiing is of interest, Albertville, France is just off the route. You can also cross the border a bit further north, passing by Geneva just over the Swiss border, and going through Chamonix and Mont Blanc.

Driving from France to Spain

Traveling with your car rental from France to Spain, you might want to drive near one of the coasts. Drive through Toulouse and then cross the border to San Sebastian. Or journey through Toulouse and then see the Pyrenees mountains before heading to Barcelona.

One-Way Rental Rules and Restrictions

Unfortunately, due to insurance regulations and costs for returning vehicles, sometimes there are fees or restrictions with one-way car rental. However, at SIXT we are always upfront with these charges and there are no hidden fees! The one-way fee depends on the location of the pickup station and the destination. Simply enter your desired pick-up and drop-off locations in the booking function at the top of the page. You will see a pop-up notification if a one-way car rental between the two locations is not possible. The one-way rental fee (if any) will be added to the total amount payable at the end of the booking process. For unannounced one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee, so be sure to plan your trip accordingly to avoid any extra costs.
