Actually, my black hardtop was stolen in El Cerrito near Berkeley last night. Came out of my house to go to work and it was gone. Let me know if any of you guys see one for sale w/ defrost & headliner.

You know, there seems to be a pattern I'm starting to notice. Living in Berkeley = stupid people jacking stuff. I've had my wheels stolen from my garage the other weekend, so I know the feeling. I posted a new thread about not too long ago.
jpre, I'll keep a watch out for the hardtop for you while I look for my wheels.

Love the town, but for someone like me who loves his toys, its a tough place to live.

jpre,
do you have any identifying marks on the HT?
suggest you call the people on CL that have been advertising to BUY HT.
Tell them about yours, in case the thief who stole yours tries to sell it to them.
Otherwise, I haven't seen too many HT on lately. mine's been off for months.
I know some store sells a glass etching kit.
I might etch my driver's license # or some mark on it that I could prove it's mine.

Mine had the defroster wire, but it wasn't connected to anything, so there would be no reason to cut mine. It will be in perfect condition for whatever they want to do with it.

Isn't there a way to put a lock on the hardtop
using the side latches?

No alarm. Doors unlocked. Stereo stolen months ago. Makes me wonder if I would have lost a window too if I had locked the doors, or if I'd still have a hardtop.
Completely stock hardtop attachments. Was pondering more secure bolting in the back of my mind. Never did anything about it. I've got my head in the sand about my area being a "nice place". The world continues to teach me otherwise.

Well, the posting was pulled and no one ever responded to me. I never got to take a look at it. I think there's a chance it was mine, longshot that may have been. I'll never know.

After previous thefts were busted via Miata.net it would not be surprising if the thieves monitored here. HT and auto parts theft is a bit above the low end "steal for drugs" element that is not "aware" beyond getting their next fix.

You might contact CL's admin and explain things. They're pretty responsive and in fact you might even get Craig Newmark himself in email. Given the recent meet-and-rob incidents, they might be receptive.

I've posted this way to lock the top on before.
Drill and Tap the release button for a theft resistant screw on the latch. I used a tri-groove screw and a 1 1/4" fender washer. If you cannot push the button in, you cannot release the latch and you cannot remove the top. Cost is less than 3-$4.00 at best.
Here is the thread.

I was also searching for a hardtop let it be any color and this person emails me about having a black hardtop for sale with paint chips...He advertise from berkeley, but the hardtop is in oakland. I was kind of skeptical about buying stuff from oakland because of its bad rep.
He wanted me to go at night with $900 in cash so I never respond because I think that he might rob me at night in Oakland.
So anyhow I still have his email address and contact information as to phone number but no physical address. Let me know ifI can help out a fellow miata owner.

you have a serial number or have any recorded number of that hardtop so that way you can verify that it is your hardtop, because if you were to reply to the seller and agree to meet him, you can just check if it is your hardtop. Or if you have any way of knowing that it is your hardtop like some kind of a mark of some sort?
I am saying this because the theif can remove or scratch out a serial number or fill it in with bondo and spray paint it black, but a personal marking on a hidden area of the product that you made would be impossible to know by the criminal.
well for future reference you should find a way to mark your stuff on your car, like inner spokes of your rims, leave a mark on the hardtop, etc....
Once again sorry that happen to you, at least you car didn't get stolen like how my integra did in front of my house 2 years ago.
