How Plans with a Cancel Anytime Provision Work (2024)

Cancel Anytime plans can reimburse 80% of your client’s lost non-refundable trip costs if they cancel their trip for almost any unforeseeable reason their plan does not already cover. With a Cancel Anytime plan, your clients can enjoy even greater peace of mind.

What’s the difference between trip cancellation and Cancel Anytime?

Travel insurance withtrip cancellation benefitscan reimburse up to 100% of your client’s prepaid, non-refundable expenses if they must cancel their tripdue to a covered reason.Covered reasons are certain situations or events that, when they occur, mean your client may be eligible to make a claim. Covered reasons for trip cancellation are listed in their plan documents, and can include situations like:

  • The covered serious illness or injury of the insured traveler or traveling companion
  • The covered serious illness or injury of their family member (if it’s life-threatening or requires hospitalization)
  • The traveler or their traveling companion getting legally separated or divorced
  • Their destination becoming uninhabitable

If your client cancels their trip for a reason that is not a named peril, then the trip cancellation benefits can’t provide reimbursem*nt.Cancel Anytime plans can.

When your clients purchase a plan with a Cancel Anytime provision, they can be reimbursed up to 80% of the trip costs if they cancel for a reason that’s not otherwise covered in their plan.

How does a plan with a Cancel Anytime provision work?

Here’s one hypothetical example. Your client is splurging on a trip to Hawaii to attend a destination wedding. Between the luxury resort and the airfare, they’re spending $3,000. Then, they get a tearful call from their friend. Bad news: The wedding’s off. More bad news: It’s too late to get a refund from the resort or the airline.

If your client doesn’t have a Cancel Anytime plan, their choices are limited. Since a canceled wedding isn’t a covered reason under a typical travel insurance plan, they can either go on the trip (minus the wedding), or they can cancel and lose the money they spent.

With a plan that includes a Cancel Anytime provision, your client can file a claim to get reimbursed up to 80% of their prepaid, nonrefundable costs. To file a claim, they’ll need to submit proof of payment for the trip costs, as well as documentation of any refunds received and other required documentation. Then, they can get back up to $2,400 to take a vacation they’d actually enjoy.

What’s the difference between Cancel Anytime and other companies’ “cancel for any reason” (CFAR) travel insurance?

Plans with a Cancel Anytime provision offer travelers increased flexibility and more generous reimbursem*nt compared to other companies’ CFAR travel insurance plans.1

  • Cancel Anytime allows insured to cancel as late as the day of departure(as long as they haven’t left on their trip). Most “cancel for any reason” plans require travelers to cancel no later than 48 hours before their trip is scheduled to begin.
  • Cancel Anytime can reimburse 80% of insured prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs. Most “cancel for any reason” plans only reimburse 50% to 75% of trip costs.

A plan with a Cancel Anytime provision allows your clients to cancel their trip for almost any unforeseeable reason. Certain exclusions apply; please read plan documents for details.

What are the requirements for purchasing a plan with a Cancel Anytime provision?

To purchase a plan with Cancel Anytime provision, travelers must insure the full cost of their trip within 14 days of paying their first trip deposit or another trip expense.
